Calling all penny hoarders: get out your mason jars and piggy banks! The US Mint announced that the last penny was struck in November 2025. Now is the time to spread that wealth and put those copper cuties back in circulation so that collectors everywhere can make the most accessible souvenir of all time. Call them what you will – pressed, flattened, smashed, smooshed, squished, or even squashed, if you must –these pocket-sized memories are the best use of the now-obsolete currency.

Join Christine Henry and Pete Morelewicz, by day a historic preservation professor and a graphic artist, as they discuss the history of squished pennies, their collaborative art project, the Squished Penny Museum (1997-2007), and the future of squishing.  Spoiler alert – if you don’t already have a collection, you will want to start one by the end of this Zoom!
