Diner fans from around the country convened in southern New Jersey on September 17, for a dawn-to-dusk bus tour of nearly 20 diners and other roadside attractions in the region.
The conference gave attendees the opportunity to explore how the area’s natural environment has affected tourism and the roadside’s built environment throughout the late 19th and 20th Centuries. The conference was headquartered in Fayetteville, a vibrant college town that is home to the University of Arkansas.
In search of vintage motels, diners, curio shops, neon signs, and other roadside artifacts, members of the Society for Commercial Archeology came together in Albuquerque Sept. 10-13 for four days of exploring, touring, learning, and just plain fun.
