Closing of old Arby’s on Knollwood in Winston-Salem brings flood of memories
From the Winston-Salem Journal: Chuck Dale Smith didn’t mean to set off a small tsunami of reminiscence. He just wanted a sandwich.
Yet within minutes of publishing a social media update about the out-of-nowhere closing of a 55-year-old fast food joint with one very iconic sign, Smith did just that.
“Arby’s at Knollwood Street Closing tomorrow! It’s been there since 1969! I went there quite a bit in the 1980’s when I managed The Record Exchange at Knollwood Manor!”
One three-sentence status update sent from the heart of Ardmore set off hours of shared diversions down Memory Lane.
Coca-Cola mural at Tripps Renovations gets much-needed facelift
From the Hendersonville Times-News: HENDERSONVILLE – Visitors on Main Street have seen the iconic Coca-Cola mural at the corner of Sixth Avenue and Main Street slowly becoming discolored through the years, especially on the bottom portion.
Thanks to the efforts of Tripp Jeter’s office manager, Tammy Navarro, of Tripps Renovations located at 620 North Main Street, and also Mark Ray of the Hendersonville Historic Preservation Commission, the sign has been fully restored and is back to looking like it first did in 2015 when it was first painted.
Historic Hudson Valley Diner Listed For Sale After 40 Years
From wpdh.com: The owner of the Hudson Valley’s most famous diner has decided to move on and has listed the historic restaurant for sale.
The future of several Hudson Valley diners has been up in the air over the past few years. After the Tabletalk Diner in Poughkeepsie closed for good during the pandemic, we learned that the New Windsor Coach was being put on the market after 30 years. Most recently, the Odyssey Diner on Route 9 in Wappingers Falls listed its business for sale. It’s unclear why all of these diners have suddenly started to disappear from the Hudson Valley, but it has now turned into an unfortunate trend.
This week we learned the sad news that the Hudson Valley’s most celebrated diner is now for sale after its owner has decided to leave the business. A listing for the Historic Village Diner in Red Hook appeared on the Houlahan Lawrence website announcing that the restaurant at 7550 North Broadway in Red Hook was officially for sale.

City of Long Branch Saves Refreshing Piece of History
From Tapinto.net: LONG BRANCH, NJ – A vintage Coca-Cola sign, dating back to 1910, was uncovered last month during demolition of an adjoining building’s exterior on Third Avenue in downtown Long Branch. The historic discovery was carefully removed and donated to the city by Prime City developers Dan Silverman, Alex McGee and Mike Reichel along with their partners Nick Urgo, Angelo and Anthony Giachi.
Before the pieces are safely stored, and a permanent home is found, residents and visitors will have a chance to check out this piece of history up close on Thursday, April 27th from 6pm-8pm, at the newly renovated future home of the Health & Technology Center at 131 Bath Ave. (corner of Bath & 3rd). The city will host a viewing party where the planks from the sign will be laid out, and vintage bottles of Coca-Cola, pizza and snacks will be available for all to enjoy.
