Andrew Danish: Palm Springs Weekend

Andrew Danish has worked extensively with Stanford University and has art directed numerous magazines. He now manages danishMODERN studio in Oakland, CA specializing in art direction, graphic design and photography. His book Palm Springs Weekend co-authored with Alan Hess and published by Chronicle Books in 2001 has sold out four print runs.

To mark the 25th anniversary of his book Palm Springs Weekend, Andrew will discuss how the book helped transform the perception of the desert town from a backwater to the center of international modernism it is today. This talk will include an overview of the local architects, Palm Springs neighborhoods, residential and commercial images from the book, plus hotels, celebrity homes, country clubs, trailer parks, vintage signage, and a discussion of the meteoric rise of Modernism Week.
