(Gone) WonderBurger
At the corner of State Street and Nott Terrace on the street leading to Union College is the WonderBurger, a White Tower constructed in the 1950s and converted to this use within the last few years. Note the white and turquoise color scheme with the corner tower and the box-like form of the building.
UPDATE: The revitalization of downtown Schenectady, which unfortunately has come at a great cost in the demolition of historic commercial architecture, has been driven since 1998 by the Metroplex Development Authority (see related article). Schenectady County was one of the last two counties in New York State to raise its sales tax rate to 8% (from 7.5%). That .5% is funneled through Metroplex, which has the authority to issue supplemental development grants.
